A Simple Baby Feeding Log: A Daily Record

A straightforward way to record baby feeding times and notes, with links to focused breastfeeding and combination-feeding guides.

Keep the record small and useful

A baby feeding log does not need to capture everything. Start with the date and time of each feed, then add only details that help you remember the day. A paper sheet can stay near a feeding spot; a notes app or tracker may be easier when you are away from home.

Give different feed types their own details

For breastfeeding, you might note which side you started on or whether you offered both sides. For a bottle, record the amount and unit shown on your own measuring container. You can leave a short note when something is useful to remember. The free feeding log template includes space for these details.

Make handoffs easier

If more than one caregiver is helping, agree on simple wording and where the log lives. A quick, consistent entry is easier to read later than a long note written from memory. For side-specific notes, see how to keep a breastfeeding log; for recording both feed types in one timeline, see tracking breastfeeding and bottle feeding together.

A log is not a feeding assessment

Records can help you explain what you have observed, but they do not determine whether a baby is getting enough milk. If you are worried about feeding or your baby's wellbeing, contact a qualified health professional. The NHS breastfeeding guidance also recommends seeking support when there are concerns.
